SYNESTHESIA VOL2
By Celeste Melling (2022)
Funnily enough, Mary who's on this magazine's album cover also has the condition synesthesia where she experiences colours, sounds, textures, tastes and smells when processing information
Popular Music Performance Showreel
Commonly known; Mary's time at LAU was spent exploring sound and it's effect on emotions in the body by the use of sound frequencies and varied rhythmic patterns. She is also known to be making music in the genre of art pop, similar yet still original to Kate bush, Björk and Aurora.
According to Kolk (2014) and Maté (2003) It's common for individuals not to realise that they are suffering from childhood trauma because the memories are buried deep within and are acting out from the subconscious. Music has the potential to unlock these memories and provide a path towards healing (Levitin, 2006).
Mary's music will evoke emotions tied to these forgotten traumas, such as heartbreak, loss, anger, and sadness, with the remedy being emotional resolve from the pain expressed through lyrics and melodies and dance. Emotions and experiences such as connectedness, love, compassion and catharsis will be the result.
Never Go Back (2022)
Released on music streaming platforms in July 2022, this performance at Belgrave's in Leeds from April 2022 with the track added on top. It doesn't completely sync up but is still worth the watch to see Mary's artistic expression. This is also the song that got performed for Skin from the band Skunk Anansie that said that Mary is a natural born star with a talent for performance and singing.
At the end of the day, she had to go back regardless of the rememberance of previously suppressed trauma. However, it was a neccessary step towards healing to keep this mentality for a while.

With the Palm of my Hand (2022)
This is Mary's first solo project where she decided to take a different direction than the rest of the band, DAYAN, after realising some band members made fun of Mary's extreme emotions that originated from trauma. She started exploring how different sound frequencies and rhythmic patterns such as the 440Hz and polyrhythms effects the body. It flows of emotional correlation between body and mind. It withholds a calmness through the eye of the storm.

What Goes Around Comes Around (2022)
A song Mary wrote after somebody unknown but close to her smashed her laptop screen. this upset Mary so she made a song about it to release the pain. Members of her friendgroup stopped being Mary's friend due to this. Mary explored the effective use of phonetics, prosody to mimic lyrics, onomatopoeia, semiotics, anaphones and metaphors for emotional articulation and to take the listeners into a vivid soundscape.

Progressively More Sassy
This song ties to Mary's archival body of pain. Due to her level of trauma in childhood she spent a lot of her time daydreaming about someone rescuing her from this pain, all to find herself lonely again. In this song she decides to finally release the habit of using daydreaming of love as a coping mechanism and being sassy about it instead.

Ice Scream (2023)
Digging deeper into emotional pain, Mary's objective was to make a song that created a lyrical and emotional soundscape that transports listeners to a specific emotional and mental state. It's was also the beginning of incorporateing lyrics with double meanings and pronounce them in a way that emphasises their dual interpretation (similar to the style of the Norwegian duo Highasakite).

I see you (2023)
In this video Mary is lighting a candle to bring light to the situation of the pain and lives lost to abuse in silence.
It is also representational of Amnesty International's logo of a candle, which Mary previously worked for. It could also represent the human right for justice and freedom of speech. (Amnesty International, 2023).

Star x lovers (2023)
Working in nature in this video is representational of the union of natural and synthetic life on earth which symbolise contemporary life. The imagery of water represents emotions and feminine energy. The veil represents hiding or covering something up; it is also acting as an energetic shield of protection. It’s important to highlight the the veil in abuse victims and showcase the necessity of taking ownership of the veil.
When does one want it to be to shielded from harm, and when does one want their emotions to be visible? Before this Mary misunderstood the concept of having a veil, which made her feel invisible and unable to connect to people. After reflecting on the veil and using it as a prop she realised she's in control of the veil and that she can use the veil to her advantage.

Darkness of the Night (2023)
This song is about being in a hopeless mental state during the night which can be dark and lonely. It is often at night that accidents happen. People get more in touch with the feeling of being alone. Tendency is going to an addiction to distract oneselves from the truth that is that pain of feeling alone. The nights can be dark and lonely. This song is made to show people who struggle their strength to prevail the night and get through the overwhelming thoughts.
